Celtic Dance
Durante il nostro soggiorno ad Edimburgo siamo andati ad una lezione di musica celtica con i nostri professori. Siamo giunti in una chiesa dove un uomo vestito con il kilt tradizionale scozzese ci ha accolti. Inizialmente ci ha chiesto di scegliere un compagno con il quale iniziare le danze. Durante il primo ballo era d’obbligo cambiare il compagno mentre nel secondo bisognava rimanere con la stessa persona. Ho notato da subito che questo tipo di danza è più allegra che quelle Italiane ed ha un ritmo più veloce; infatti queste danze tradizionali si svolgono durante diverse cerimonie. Imparando queste due coreografie ci siamo divertiti molto; dopodiché il signore ci ha parlato delle tradizioni scozzesi, in particolare la tradizione del kilt e come gli uomini lo usassero in passato. Inoltre l’uomo ci ha suonato e cantato alcune canzoni con la sua chitarra e la cornamusa, spiegandoci il testo di una canzone che scrisse quando aveva la nostra età. Questa esperienza ci è piaciuta molto perché è stata divertente ma anche educativa. Grazie a questo incontro la Scozia rimarrà per sempre nei nostri cuori.

During our stay in Edinburgh we went to a Celtic music lesson with our teachers. We went to a church and a man dressed in the traditional kilt welcomed us. First of all he made us choose a partner to start the dances. In the first Celtic dance it was necessary to change your partner, instead in the second one you stayed with the same person all the time. I noticed immediately that this kind of dance is more cheerful than our music and has a faster rhythm; in fact it is traditionally danced during different ceremonies. We learnt the two choreographies and we had a lot of fun; after that, the Scottish man explained us some things about the traditions that exist in Scotland, especially the tradition around the kilt and how mens used in the past. He also played some songs with his bagpipe and his guitar, and at the same time he taught us the lyrics of a song he wrote when he was our age. We really enjoyed this experience because it was fun but educational as well. Thanks to this meeting we will always take a part of Scotland with us.

La sera del venticinque settembre siamo andati, insieme a un altro gruppo di ragazzi provenienti da una scuola italiana come la nostra, in una chiesa a Edimburgo per partecipare a una serata collegata ai balli e alle canzoni tradizionali della scozia. David, il signore che ci ha tenuto compagnia e insegnato i balli, è stato simpaticissimo e bravissimo a intrattenerci.
Abbiamo fatto 3 balli, tutti a coppie, abbiamo cantato due canzoni: 'Caledonia' e 'Why do I waste my time', inoltre ci ha fatto vedere come fuonziona la cornamusa e ci ha suonato qualcosa. È stato interessante anche ascoltare mentre ci raccontava la storia dell'origine della bandiere scozzese e del kilt.

On the evening of the twenty-fifth of September we went, together with another group of students from Italy like us, to a church in Edinburgh to take part to a very particular evening: we learnt traditional Scottish dances! David, the man who stayed with us and taught us the dances, was very nice and great at entertaining us.
We learnt 3 dances, all in pairs, then we sang two songs: 'Caledonia' and 'Why do I waste my time', he also showed us how the bagpipe works and played something. David also told us the story of the origin of the Scottish flags and the kilt, it was very interesting!
